Innocence vs. Experience
An innocent young couple on their wedding night…
A young couple marries, but realize that they're untrained on the details of the wedding night. The bride's convent school did not cover marriage. The groom's inebriated tutor points out that it wasn't in his approved curriculum. In the end, the lovers find they learn best on their own. A gem of French melody, An Incomplete Education is a truly charming story of innocence and young love.
A not-so-innocent pair of women who know that diamonds are a girl's best friend.
A soprano and her friend share an apartment, paid for by the soprano's wealthy benefactor. But the soprano has another admirer, who is also capable of supplying the sort of gifts a woman on her own requires. With its play on operatic grandiosity and feminine wiles, Haydn's score both celebrates and spoofs the joys of being a diva-in-training.
Join our region's best young artists for this contrasting pair of intimate works, perfect for showcasing their talent.
